Mission 1: Save Your Pack (before you start traveling)

Some years ago, I tried to travel as a back packer. Normally, guys have a lot of stuff. They bring everything they want in their suitcases. BUT, WAIT! "Are you guys really use such much stuff?"

Smartphones/iPad

If you don't travel for a long time, I recommend to bring only a smartphone, or iPad as your information tool. You can check your Facebook, tweet for your friends, blog for yourself, and write email to your family and teachers. Naturally, you can make a phone call, play a game, and listen to music!

If you plan to visit urban areas in the world, you can use mobile apps such as "Lonely Planet" for your travel. You can also get guidebooks at the bookshops. However, if you worry about loosing, or visit rural areas, it's still good to have a book for your conveniences.

If you want to visit Japan and South Korea, you may not use your mobile phone because they use different systems and frequencies. Please make sure your phone works there or not. I know some guys needed to buy a new phone in Tokyo. It's a big loss. (You can use WiFi still if you have a smartphone. Then messengers are useful!)

Some companies internationally sell cellphones and sims:
  • eKit (International Mobile Sim/Phones)
  • Truphone (Global Mobile Network Sim/Apps)
You can also use local providers when you reach the country. However, in some countries, it takes some days to get your phone and sim.

Messengers are also good ways to communicate.
Skype is one of the best tools to get people. You can use it on your phones, PCs, Macs and devices. Normally, hotels, airports, cafes etc, have WiFi. If you don't have a phone, you can call, and can send a text to worldwide.

Clothes/Underwear

For clothes and underwear, you can buy and trash on your travel. Especially, if you go around to the urban areas, you don't need to worry. Bring minimum, and wash them every night when you take a shower. Or plan a small break in the middle of travel for washing clothes.

If you don't plan to go with your partners, you don't need to care for them. Bring some basic t-shirts is very nice. You can use them as underwear, replacements for emergency, and towel in the worst case.
